Life Drawing and Anatomy at Fallsview Arts

This course is designed to strengthen each artist’s ability to draw the human form with accuracy and confidence. Suitable for both beginners and experienced artists, the class provides the essential skills and tools needed to draw a live figure model in a naturalistic and well-structured way.

Through a combination of short lectures, instructor demonstrations, focused exercises, and dedicated drawing time, students learn to see and interpret the figure from new perspectives while developing a personal approach that works for them. The course begins with short poses that emphasize gesture, movement, and the expressive quality of line. As the weeks progress and the poses lengthen, students are introduced to a more constructive understanding of anatomy—observing skeletal landmarks, muscle groups, and the form’s underlying structure.

In the final sessions, long poses offer the opportunity to explore composition, shading, and more refined rendering techniques. By the end of the course, students will have a well-rounded understanding of how to approach drawing the human form—both from life and within their own artistic practice.
