Open Portrait Pose at Fallsview Arts
This format is ideal for artists looking to move beyond quick studies and into fully realized portrait drawings and paintings in a calm, professional studio setting.
Open Portrait Model – Long Pose
Open Portrait Model – Long Pose is a 3–4 week open studio portrait series at Fallsview Arts, designed for artists who want extended, uninterrupted time to paint from the same live portrait model. Working from one sustained pose across multiple weeks allows for deeper observation, stronger likeness, and more developed portrait work.
Why a Multi-Week Long Pose?
Unlike single-session portrait events, this multi-week long-pose series gives artists the opportunity to:
Return to the same pose week after week
Refine proportion, structure, and expression over time
Develop layered color, value, and surface quality
Make thoughtful adjustments with fresh eyes each session
This approach supports meaningful growth and more confident, resolved portrait work.
Open to All Levels
All experience levels are welcome.
Beginners benefit from extended observation time and the ability to work slowly without pressure, while intermediate and advanced artists appreciate the continuity and depth this format provides.
This series pairs well with guided painting classes and open studio sessions at Fallsview Arts.
A Professional Studio in Putnam County, NY
Held at Fallsview Arts, just one mile north of Croton Falls, this portrait series takes place in a quiet, well-lit studio designed for focused art practice. Artists have access to easels, tables, and a respectful, distraction-free environment that supports sustained concentration.
Fallsview Arts serves artists throughout Putnam County, Westchester County, and the greater Hudson Valley, offering high-quality studio experiences for painters at every stage.
Designed for Portrait Painters
This session is best suited for portrait painting from life. Artists may work independently in oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, or mixed media. There is no formal instruction, allowing each participant to focus on personal goals, technique, and process at their own pace.
The long-pose format is especially valuable for artists interested in:
Likeness and facial structure
Skin tones and color temperature
Edges, brushwork, and layering
Developing a finished portrait over several weeks
