The Portrait Painting Workshop from Life at Fallsview Arts is a very unique and immersive opportunity to study portraiture in a focused studio setting under the guidance of accomplished artist Laurel Stern Boeck.

This immersive weekend workshops is designed for artists interested in capturing both the likeness and character of the human subject. Working directly from a live model, participants will focus on observation, structure, light, and color to create portraits with depth, presence, and realism.

Designed as a concentrated studio learning experience, this workshop is ideal for artists looking to refine specific skills, deepen their understanding of portraiture, or step outside their regular studio practice.

Capture Likeness, Light, and Character

Portraiture is more than accuracy—it’s about understanding form, expression, and the way light brings a face to life. In this workshop, artists will explore how light moves across the planes of the head to create structure, dimension, and presence. Emphasis is placed on observing relationships between value, color temperature, and form rather than simply copying surface details.
